This afternoon at 7 p.m., Casa Asia is presenting a webcast entitled Spanish foreign policy in the face of the emergence of ASEAN, organised in conjunction with the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) and the Instituto Elcano Royal.
Southeast Asia is becoming increasingly important on the global stage, and its openness to international society has led to greater integration into the world system of the countries that make up the region. Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, the ten countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), account for 660 million inhabitants with a GDP of 3 trillion dollars, one of the largest markets in the world. The webcast will revolve around the question: what cards should Spain play to make up for lost time and for Spanish companies to turn this challenge into an opportunity? Rafael Bueno, Director of Politics, Society and Educational Programmes, Casa Asia, will present the event, and Isidre Ambros Artigas, journalist, expert on political and economic issues in the Asia-Pacific region and author of the book La cara oculta de China (The Hidden Face of China), will intervene as a speaker. The moderator will be Oriol Farrés, Coordinator of the CIDOB International Yearbook, and the commentator will be Mario Esteban, Senior Researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute.
