A consortium led by Indra has been awarded the largest cyber defence project in Europe, the development of a national and European platform for situational cyber awareness in military operations, according to the company.

The project is called ECYSAP (European Cyber Situational Awareness Platform) and the consortium headed by Indra is made up of partners from Spain, France, Italy and Estonia. It brings together leading organisations in the European cyber defence market from industry, academia and SMEs representing the sector.

ECYSAP is funded by the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) and supported by the European Commission and the European Defence Agency (EDA) through the Ministries of Defence of the participating States.

This project seeks to strengthen European capabilities in the defence of cyberspace, a domain of operations recognised by NATO in recent years, as well as sea, air, land and space.

As Indra explained in a statement, the project will incorporate capabilities for visualisation, detection and response to cyber threats and offers support for decision-making at the mission level, as well as an autonomous response capability. To this end, recent advances in cyber defence technologies and emerging areas of expertise as well as innovative research prototypes will converge.

The tools implemented will allow, for example, to assess the risks of a possible attack, estimate its propagation, as well as the possible impact on targets. Validation activities will be conducted through use cases endorsed by member states and conducted in real operating environments in which cyber situational awareness capabilities will be demonstrated in mission accomplishment.
