In collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, The Legacy Association has presented an exhibition on the Spanish legacy in the United States at the Real Fábrica de Tapices in Madrid. The presentation was made by the Secretary of State for Defence, Esperanza Casteleiro.
The exhibition, which will remain open and can be visited until 15 December, from Tuesday to Friday mornings, by prior appointment, reveals some unknown milestones and figures who were nevertheless fundamental to understanding the history of the United States of America. The exhibition is also inspired by traditional postcards. A fleeting journey of 33 images through the landscapes of our history, which also includes the projection of some of The Legacy’s videos and a poster of the Viceroyalty of New Spain.
During her speech, the Secretary of State for Defence stressed that “Spain’s legacy in the United States is more than evident”, since we share values and principles. For her part, the president of The Legacy and curator of the exhibition, Eva García, stressed that the aim of the exhibition is to take a journey through the landscapes of our history during the time of the Viceroyalty of New Spain. She added: “We have chosen this format because when we send a postcard, we are sending an open message”.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the director of the Royal Tapestry Factory, Alejandro Klecker, along with numerous military personnel from the Ministry of Defence and the United States Army.
The Legacy is a non-profit association dedicated to highlighting the significance of Spain’s historical and cultural contribution to the United States of America. The aim is to foster and promote the ties between the two countries, based on the valuable relationship that has united them since before the Declaration of Independence of the American people.
