The Embassies of the Republic of Paraguay in Spain and of Spain in Paraguay, together with the “Juan de Salazar” Cultural Centre and the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid, will start tomorrow, Thursday, a series of lectures Cultural links between Spain and Paraguay from history and literature, which will take place in the Paraguayan capital, Asunción.
The aim of the series is to disseminate research carried out in recent years by Spanish scholars and academics on Spanish-Paraguayan cultural links; to highlight the importance of these links for Paraguay and for relations between the two countries, as well as the multiple areas and disciplines they covered; and to create a meeting place for researchers on relations between Spain and Paraguay, while stimulating the interest of young students in these issues. It is envisaged that this cycle will be a first experience that will allow for the development of new events on these and other topics of Spanish-Paraguayan relations.
In this initial session, the cycle will be presented by the Paraguayan ambassador to Spain, Ricardo Scavone, the Spanish ambassador to Paraguay, Carmen Castiella Ruiz de Velasco, and the director of the Department of Contemporary History at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Juan Pan-Montojo. Afterwards, Eduardo Tamayo Belda, Spanish historian and political scientist, will speak on Research on relations between Spain and Paraguay: a brief state of affairs. This talk and the following ones will be posted on the cultural centre’s Youtube channel so that those interested can watch them again.
