The Diplomat

Diplomat Gabriel Cremades is the new deputy director general for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, replacing Jorge Urbiola, who was recently appointed ambassador to Kazakhstan.

The countries to be covered include Ukraine and most of the former Soviet Union states that gained independence in the 1990s.

Cremades, who entered the diplomatic service in 1999, was recently deputy consul in Miami, and previously held second posts at the embassies in Serbia and Malta. He was also posted to Managua and the Permanent Representation of Spain to the United Nations in New York.

On two occasions he was an advisor in the International Department of the Presidency of the Government and was in charge of the Department of Cooperation with Sub-Saharan Africa in the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
