The Business Council Alliance for Ibero-America (CEAPI) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to “strengthen the Ibero-American business space through tourism”.
The agreement also aims to “give renewed impetus to the integration of the private sector in both organisations through the promotion of their respective activities”.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day, which is commemorated every 27 September, and with the aim of raising awareness in the Ibero-American community about the economic, social, cultural and political value of tourism, UNWTO and CEAPI present a reinforced collaboration with which they hope to contribute to the development of this sector, one of the main vectors of growth in the region.
Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of UNWTO, said: “Public-private collaboration is key to strengthening tourism and unleashing the sector’s proven potential as a driving force for the economies and societies of Ibero-America”.
Núria Vilanova, President of CEAPI, said: “We are confident in the transformative capacity of tourism as a generator of employment and a driver of sustainable development in Ibero-America. And we consider it essential that both organisations work hand in hand with the goal of supporting the continued growth of tourism and placing this sector at the height of its social responsibility”.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed by Pololikashvili and Vilanova ensures the cooperation of both entities in the promotion of values for a sustainable, inclusive and accessible tourism, as well as for “the strengthening of public-private partnerships as a relevant agent with a positive impact on the tourism sector and related areas”.
