The Fundación Consejo España – EE.UU. and the Casa de Puerto Rico en España (CAPRE) are organising the digital seminar Opportunities for commercial development between Spain and Puerto Rico on Wednesday 22 September at 4.30 p.m. The main objective of this seminar is to promote understanding of the economic situation that Puerto Rico is currently facing.
The main objective of this seminar is to promote understanding of the economic situation that Puerto Rico is currently facing, in the hope that it will serve as an impetus to promote greater commercial activity between the island and Spain. Although the link between Spain and the island began to be forged as early as 1493, the founding of the city of San Juan de Puerto Rico 500 years ago marks an important milestone for the Spanish presence in the Americas. The creation of new trade routes generated a fruitful commercial activity that has continued virtually uninterrupted to the present day. After a period of unsuccessful trade relations, reconstruction programmes are now being reactivated which will involve significant investment in affordable housing, the electricity system and infrastructure. Negotiations on public debt management are also on track, so that the level of fiscal uncertainty has been reduced. Among the positive indicators, there has also been an increase in employability rates, which have been showing signs of recovery since March.
