The anthropologist Ruth Behar will give the conference Stories and tales from the Sephardic world of Cuba at the Centro Sefarad-Israel on Tuesday 7th September.
The anthropologist will talk about her encounters with the Sephardic world of Cuba through anthropology, poetry and literature. She will also analyse how the memory of Spain and Turkey and the search for new homes in the United States and Israel were present in this diaspora. During the conference, Behar will present several stories from her books, A Certain Sephardic Air (Editorial Verbum, 2020) and An Island Called Home (Linkgua Ediciones, 2016). Ruth Behar is also the author of the bilingual poetry book Everything I Kept/Todo lo que guardé. She is Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan and was recently elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
