In this, her second film, the director offers muscle, sweat and sacrifice. It is 48 hours before the world bodybuilding championship, for which Lea Pearl has trained hard under the stony hand of her trainer Al (Peter Mullan), a mentor and former bodybuilding star who jealously watches over her in the hope that his “pearl” will return her to the limelight. Just hours before the final, Lea is haunted by the shadows of the past: her ex-partner reappears, bringing with him their six-year-old son, whom Lea hasn’t seen for four years.
