The Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Spain, Yuri Korchagin, officially inaugurated on Monday in Vigo, the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Galicia, which will be run by the Galician businessman Pedro Mouriño.
At the opening ceremony, which was attended by the vice-president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, and political leaders and managers of Galician companies, the ambassador said that Galicia has a very special attraction among Russian citizens and that he hopes that the existence of an Honorary Consulate “will be an important boost for tourists”.
Korchagin recalled that in 2019 1,350,000 Russian citizens visited Spain, which became the first European destination of the Federation.
The honorary consul, who is CEO and founder of IberAtlantic Global Corporation, highlighted the relations that Galicia already has with Russia and gave as an example that Inditex has 589 establishments in that country and employs around 10,000 workers there. Mouriño also pointed out that the Russian pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector has set its sights on an important Galician biotechnology group with the idea of manufacturing the Sputnik vaccine against COVID-19 in the region.
