The Sacyr Group has been awarded two contracts for the integral maintenance of the buildings and facilities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid for a total amount of more than 1.65 million euros.
The notice of formalization of the contracts, signed last May 12 by the Deputy Director General of the Budget Office, Cecilia Rocha, and published last Monday in the Official State Gazette (BOE), awards this work to Sacyr Facilities, S.A., a company linked to the Sacyr Group specializing, among other services, in the integral maintenance of facilities.
The contracts, signed by the Contracting Board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are divided into two lots awarded for a total of 1,651,690.94 euros. The first lot, awarded for 1,374,819.52 euros and with a completion period of two years, provides for the integral maintenance of the Santa Cruz Palace (both the historic and modern buildings, in Plaza de la Provincia and Salvador Street, respectively), the Viana Palace (Duque de Rivas Street), the headquarters of the General Subdirectorate for Patrimonial Affairs (Marqués Viudo de Pontejos Street), the Budget Office (Plaza de Santa Cruz) and the Diplomatic School (Paseo de Juan XXIII).
This lot also includes the maintenance of the headquarters of UNHCR Spain, located on General Perón Street, which was ceded by the Ministry under a headquarters agreement, and a plot of land on Pedro Damián Street where the construction of a new headquarters for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been planned. The project was finally abandoned in favor of the old headquarters in Plaza del Marqués de Salamanca (the completion of which has become a never-ending story, although the Ministry hopes to move into the building in November of this year) and, since then, the plot has remained deserted, although part of the foundations laid in 1994 to house the Ministry are still visible. The future of the site still depends on the decision of Patrimonio del Estado, part of the Ministry of Finance.
The second lot, awarded at 276,871.42 euros for one year of execution, includes the integral maintenance of the building of Torres Ágora, provisional headquarters of the Ministry located in Serrano Galvache Street, and the General Directorate of Spaniards Abroad and Consular and Migratory Affairs, in Pechuán Street.
When approving the award, environmental considerations have been taken into account that result in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions or that imply the maintenance or improvement of environmental values that may be affected by the execution of the contract, such as a more sustainable management of water, the promotion of the use of renewable energies or the recycling and use of reusable packaging, as stated in the tender announcement, published in the BOE last September.
