British Airways announced yesterday the launch of its first direct flights between Gibraltar and the airport of London’s financial district (the so-called London City), which will join the routes already operated from Heathrow Airport.
As reported yesterday by the Government of Gibraltar, the new route will launch on 25 June, 2021. British Airways will operate two flights a week to Gibraltar, on Mondays and Fridays, which will provide important air links for cargo and permitted travel, as well as for business travellers, holiday makers and those visiting friends and relatives, when restrictions are eased.
“A seasonal link with London City Airport operated by BA CityFlyer brings yet another operator to Gibraltar and opens up a further catchment area from the UK”, said the Government of Gibraltar’s Minister for Business, Tourism, Transport and the Port, Vijay Daryanani. “This service will complement BA’s mainline services from Heathrow and the local business and financial services community will undoubtedly welcome a link to London’s financial district”, he continued. “Our tourism, retail and hospitality industries can also look forward to greeting customers from the City and the east London catchment area”, he added. London City Airport is the fifth busiest airport in the British capital, after Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted.
