The Spanish ambassador to Angola, Manuel Hernández Ruigómez, was unable to meet the Spanish prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, who began a two-day visit to the country yesterday because he was quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19, The Diplomat has learned from government sources.
Sánchez was received at Luanda airport by the Angolan foreign minister, Téte Antonio, and the Angolan ambassador in Madrid, José Luis de Matos Agostinho.
The Spanish Embassy was represented by the Minister Counsellor, Óscar Revuelta.
Also present was the Ambassador in Special Mission for the Africa Plan, Alberto Virella, who was sent last Monday to Luanda to reinforce the Embassy, after it was known that the ambassador tested positive for COVID about ten days ago.
Hernandez Ruigomez then presented discomfort caused by the virus, which was not serious. Last Sunday he underwent another PCR test, which was still positive, so he has been forced to stay at his residence.
