Last Wednesday, the Centro Riojano de Madrid celebrated its 120th anniversary. The event, which at all times kept the strictest anti-Covid sanitary measures, was attended by many friends and members, who enjoyed the anecdotes told by the former directors of the Centre.
At the beginning of the event, a message from the President of the Government of La Rioja, Concha Andreu Rodríguez, was projected, in which she congratulated the Centre on its anniversary and wished “another 120 years of intense activity and prosperity”.
José Antonio Rupérez, the current president, welcomed the attendees and pointed out that “many of you present here are living history of the Casa, since you have been part of it. Thank you for your dedication in the respective offices you have held”.
After paying a sincere tribute to the members who died as a result of the pandemic, Francisco Javier Riaño and Eduardo Paternina, the president said that “the Centro Riojano has gradually become a real showcase for promoting the values of La Rioja. If I may say so, we have become the best embassy of La Rioja in Madrid”.
The commemoration ceremony was also attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, including the Ambassador of Moldova, Violeta Agrici; the Second Head of the Hungarian Embassy, Vajk Farkas; the Minister Counsellor of El Salvador, Alejandra Samour, and the Third Secretary of the Embassy of Azerbaijan, Maqsad Huseynov.
