The Diplomat
The Government of Pakistan has decided to appoint Shujaat Ali Rathore as ambassador in Madrid, despite the fact that, at first, the name that had been made public in the Pakistani media was that of the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary.
The Diplomat echoed this information, but finally, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary will be ambassador to Australia and not to Spain.
For our country, the Pakistani government has chosen Shujaat Ali Rathore, who was until now ambassador to the Netherlands, and who will fill the vacancy left in Madrid by Khayyam Akbar, who retired after three years at the head of Pakistan’s diplomatic representation.
Shujaat Ali Rathore, who will shortly take up his post at the Embassy, graduated in Marine Science from the University of Karachi in 1992 and subsequently joined the Foreign Service.
He has held, among others, the positions of section officer for the Middle East, staff officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, director general of Headquarters, Finance and Special Programs and director general of the Foreign Minister Office.
He has also served as Consul General in Birmingham and has been posted at the Pakistan Embassy in Damascus, Washington, Jakarta and Beijing, where he was Deputy Head of Mission.
