The State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Ibero-America and the Caribbean, Cristina Gallach, yesterday expressed the commitment of the department headed by Arancha González Laya to address the problem of human trafficking in political discussions with other countries, with a view to tackling it.
This was stated at the inauguration, in Madrid, of the I International Seminar against Trafficking in Human Beings, which will be closed today and which began with a discussion between Gallach and the actress Mabel Lozano, who has been very involved for years in combating trafficking for sexual purposes.
The State Secretary stressed that the problem of trafficking is already being addressed from different areas of the Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also wants to “contribute to greater effectiveness” in this fight. For this reason, she said that they are committed to including the problem in the “political dialogue” with other countries to address it “openly and seek solutions”.
Gallach expressed the intention to continue contributing, as has already been done this year to the UN Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking and said that the Government will present a resolution next year on this issue during the conference of the parties to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime with a view to strengthening the Palermo Protocol.
