The Diplomat
The German Embassy in Madrid started yesterday a campaign on social networks to assure that German citizens are eager to return to Spain.
The campaign, according to a note from the diplomatic representation, aims to express Germany’s support for Spanish hosts “at a time – it says – when the tourism sector is being hit hard by theCcovid-19 pandemic and when to protect everyone’s health we still have to refrain from traveling.”
With the hashtag #WeWillBeBack, the German Embassy will publish on its Facebook and Twitter accounts until March 9 the messages sent to them by German citizens in recent weeks.
They will also publish the videos that have been sent to them by citizens living in different regions of Germany.
Although the note recognizes that no one can seriously predict whether these trips can be carried out this summer, it points out that “Madrid, Mallorca, San Sebastian, Extremadura, Cartagena, Picos de Europa, Malpica or La Garrotxa are just some of the destinations to which German tourists are eager to return as soon as the coronavirus crisis allows safe travel again“.
Germany has traditionally been the second largest tourist source market for Spain, behind only the United Kingdom. ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel industry trade fair, will take place virtually from March 9-12, 2021.
