This evening at 7pm, the cultural week at Casa Mediterráneo begins with a meeting with the representative of UN Women in Tunisia and Libya, Begoña Lasagabaster (in the photo), in a new session of the Women and the Mediterranean cycle, in which, from her work at the head of the United Nations office, she will present her vision of the current role of women in Mediterranean societies, as well as the challenges they face in the changing world of the 21st century.
As part of the Paolo Sorrentino Cycle, the Cineclub Mediterráneo will be holding a virtual colloquium on the film El hombre de más (The Extra Man) on 17 February at 7 p.m., with the film educators Luis López Belda and Flavia Bernardez. Paolo Sorrentino’s debut feature film and the first example of his favourite themes: old age and failure. Naples, the 1980s. A time of prosperity in the Italy of easy success. Two men share the same name, the same date of birth: one is a footballer, the other a singer. Their destinies cross by chance in times of decadence for both of them. Likewise, as part of the Gastronomia y Mediterráneo series, César Saldaña, José Antonio Pavón and Federico Moncunill will talk about The success stories of the Protected Designations of Origin of Jabugo and Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and the Protected Geographical Indication of Jijona and Turrón de Alicante, on Thursday 18 February at 19:00.
Finally, on Friday, 19 February at 7 p.m., the Historias del Mediterráneo series presents the conference Where can we find our past? Spanish excavations in Egypt, with the professor of the Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), José Manuel Galán Allué, in which Spanish archaeologists who worked in Egypt from the 19th century to the present day will be remembered, with emphasis on their contributions to the knowledge of the society and culture of the ancient Egyptians. On the other hand, some of the aspects of our culture and thought that we may have in common with the ancient Egyptians will be outlined.
