The Government of Pakistan has appointed Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary as its new ambassador to Spain, The Diplomat has learned from authoritative sources.
Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary will replace Khayyam Akbar, who has reached retirement, after three years in Spain, during which he has carried out an intense work in favor of the relations between the two countries.
The new ambassador was, since August 2020, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, and has a long diplomatic career behind him, although the one in Madrid will be his first Head of Mission.
For 26 years, Zahid Hafeez has worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he has been in charge of the division covering South Asia and has been director general for Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey, as well as undersecretary for National Security. Overseas, he was posted at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington and the High Commission in London.
Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary is a dual degree holder, having done an LLM in International Law at the University of London and another in Business Administration. He also trained at the National Defense University in Washington.
