Unidas Podemos (UP) wants Andorra to be again part of the list of tax havens, after the controversy raised by the decision of several ‘youtubers’ to move their residence to the Principality to pay less taxes.
Yesterday, the spokesman of the Parliamentary Group of UP, Pablo Echenique, pointed out that it would be a question of adopting changes in the bill of law of measures of prevention and fight against the fiscal fraud that is being processed in the Congress of Deputies, so that the transfer of residence to Andorra does not imply to stop paying the IRPF, at least in the five immediate years.
Echenique indicated that this possibility already exists in our legislation and applies to certain tax havens, but not to Andorra, which is no longer considered as such. He recalled that the Principality was on that list until two years ago and was in favor of tightening the criteria to include countries such as Bulgaria and Romania, in order -he said- that “when someone relocates a house it is clear that he does not do it to pay low taxes, but to pay the IRPF in Spain”.
The announcement of the transfer of domicile to Andorra of the ‘youtuber’ El Rubius to pay less taxes and the debate raised as a result of it, was present yesterday in the press conferences in Congress, with most groups censuring this type of attitude. Only Vox dissociated itself from these criticisms and its spokesman, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, pointed out that people move to pay less taxes “have every right to do so” and that they are not committing any crime.
