The Diplomat
Anar Maharramov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan, collected the LG Electronics Award in Spain for his country’s campaign to plant 650,000 trees as part of the events dedicated to the “Year of Nasimi”, initiated by Azerbaijan’s First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva.
The Caucasian country was also highlighted for its contribution to the greening of the planet and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Ambassador Maharramov expressed his thanks to Jaime de Jaraíz, the President of LG Electronics in Spain, and stressed that “the protection of the environment, fauna and flora is one of the top priorities in our country. The organisers and participants of this event have been informed in detail about the projects and campaigns implemented in Azerbaijan on the initiative of the first vice-president and president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, about the importance of these campaigns to reduce the impact of global climate change and the contribution to landscaping both in our country and in the world”.
It is worth noting that since 2007, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has been organising the Plant a Tree! campaign, the main achievement of which has been the planting of more than one million trees in the country. The ambassador also highlighted the extensive information campaign on environmental protection launched on the initiative of the vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, since 2011, with “the holding of Green Week together with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) successfully conducted in our country and the assistance of IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) to provide a network of young environmentalists from different countries in this regard.”
During the event, the ambassadors of Chile and the Czech Republic collected the awards with which their respective countries were also honoured for their contribution to environmental protection.
