Casa Mediterráneo continues its activities this week, beginning tomorrow 26th January at 19:00 with an online meeting with the literary critic, philologist and essayist Jordi Amat (in the photo), as part of the series Writers and the Mediterranean. In his book El hijo del chófer (The Chauffeur’s Son), Amat literarily reconstructs the Catalonia where Jordi Pujol won one autonomic election after another and the media projected the image of an oasis free of corruption. He also describes the career of the journalist and lawyer Alfons Quintà (1943-2016), who reflects a perverse crossroads of siege and power, money and influence peddling.
The following day at the same time, within the Cine Club Mediterráneo, a colloquium will be presented on the Israeli film Walking on Water, with the filmmakers Luis López Belda and Flavia Bernárdez, which can be seen on Casa Mediterráneo’s Youtube channel. Eyal is a professional “liquidator” of the Mossad, the Israeli secret service. He is commissioned to track down Alfred Himmelman, a former Nazi officer who is apparently still alive. Eyal spies on Himmelman’s granddaughter Pia, who has moved to Israel after breaking away from her family in Germany. Eyal poses as a professional guide and takes advantage of the fact that Pia’s brother Axel has gone to Israel to show her Jerusalem and the shores of the Dead Sea. Although the two men have very different personalities, Eyal, the quintessential tough guy, is won over by the liberal ideas and inexhaustible enthusiasm of young Axel. Uneasy tension arises between the two men when Eyal discovers that Axel is gay.
