The Embassies of Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru will celebrate Inti Raymi 2026, also known as the Andean Festival of the Sun, next Saturday, June 20, starting at 9:00 a.m. in Madrid’s Retiro Park.
Inti Raymi is an ancestral celebration of the Andean peoples of South America that commemorates the beginning of a new agricultural cycle and the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a festival of profound spiritual significance in which homage is paid to Inti (the Sun) and Pachamama (Mother Earth), giving thanks for the harvests, fertility, and the renewal of collective energy.
The event will bring together approximately 300 dancers and cultural representatives from Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru, who will participate in a ritual ceremony of gratitude to the Sun and Pachamama, in a space for intercultural exchange, spirituality, and reaffirmation of Andean traditions.
This festival, celebrated in Spain for over 26 years, has its roots in the ancient Inca Empire and has been preserved over time as one of the most important cultural expressions of the Andean indigenous peoples, extending to communities in countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, where Inti Raymi symbolizes the beginning of the Andean New Year.
The celebration, which will take place entirely in Retiro Park, will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the start of the Ecuador parade from Puerta de Madrid to Plaza de Galicia, passing through Paseo Fernán Núñez. At 10:30 a.m., the Inti Raymi ceremony will begin in Plaza de Galicia.
