On the occasion of the International Day of Poetry and Nowruz, new year of the Persian calendar, Casa Asia organizes next Tuesday, March 17 at 18:30 a recital of poems by the Afghan Nadia Anjuman (pictured), interpreted in Farsi-Dari by Farkhunda Muhibi and Nargis Muradi, and in Spanish by actress Zoe Bonafonte and translator Rocío Moriones Alonso. In addition, there will be a dialogue with Ana Ballesteros, PhD in Arab and Islamic Studies, on the situation of Afghan women from 1996 to the present. Free activity upon registration at this link.
Nadia Anjuman (1980-2005) was an Afghan poet who challenged Taliban oppression by writing in secret. Her work, marked by anguish and hope and heir to the Persian tradition, is published for the first time in Spanish thanks to the publishing house Hiperión and the direct translation of the original done by Rocío Moriones Alonso, consolidating her legacy as a symbol of female resistance.
Born in Herat (Afghanistan), Anjuman became a reference of cultural resistance in one of the most hostile contexts for creative freedom. During the Taliban regime (1996-2001), which prohibited women from studying, he participated in the Golden Needle School, a clandestine literature circle led by Mohammad Naser Rahyab, where he began to forge his poetic voice between risk and hope.
After the fall of the regime, he continued his studies at the University of Herat. However, his life ended abruptly and violently. The circumstances were never fully clarified, although everything points to her being killed by her husband. She was only 25. His verse “I am not like that fragile sauce that shudders in the slightest breeze, I am an Afghan woman and it is only fair that I do not give up on my lament” summarizes the essence of his work: resistance and dignity in the face of adversity.
After a welcoming speech by José Pintor, general director of Casa Asia, the event will be presented and moderated by Yasmín Paricio, coordinator of Política y Sociedad de Casa Asia, in which Farkhunda Mohibi, producer and journalist of the international television channel AMU, will participate; Nargis Muradi, dentist born and trained in Iran and Afghanistan; Rocío Moriones Alonso (Rome, 1968) literary translator, interpreter and editorial reader; Ana Ballesteros, senior non-resident researcher of the Real Instituto Elcano, and Zoe Bonafonte, Spanish actress born in Barcelona.
