On Monday, March 9 at 12:30, the Instituto Cervantes hosts the dramatised reading Concha Espina. Luz y tiniebla, a tribute to the writer Concha Espina (Santander, 1869 – Madrid, 1955), a prominent figure in Spanish literature who was nominated eight times for the Nobel Prize in Literature and twice winner of the National Prize in Literature.
The title of the act alludes to the blindness that marked his last years, a stage in which, despite this difficulty, he continued writing thanks to a tablet designed to guide his hand, a tool that allowed him to continue writing works that consolidated his literary prestige.
Through fragments of her novels, letters and documents, Belén Yuste, writer, Manuel Galiana Martínez, actor, and Sonnia L. Rivas-Caballero, singer, will show their sensitivity, their social commitment and the use of literature as a denunciation, present in titles such as La sphinge maragata or El metal de los muertos.
Previously, a legacy will be deposited in memory of Concha Espina at the Caja de las Letras, with the intervention of Luis García Montero, director of the Instituto Cervantes, accompanied by the painter Concha de la Serna and the dancer Regina Navarro Sainz de la Maza, granddaughter and great-granddaughter, respectively, of the honoree.
In-person and online activity. Free admission until capacity is reached, with priority seat reservation on Eventbrite. It is also possible to follow the event through the Institute’s YouTube channel.
