Eduardo González

Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares spoke on Monday, January 26, with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, to discuss Spanish aid to the country's energy system following the recent massive Russian attacks, "so that Ukrainians have light and heating."
"I conveyed to my friend Andrii Sybiha that Spanish aid will continue to strengthen its energy system in the face of the unacceptable Russian attacks so that Ukrainians have light and heating," Albares wrote on social media. "We support Ukraine in every way possible to achieve a just and lasting peace," he concluded. For his part, Andrii Sybiha also reported via social media that he had informed his "Spanish friend and colleague" in detail about "the consequences of Russia’s massive attacks on Ukraine’s energy system." “We focused on ways to provide Ukraine with additional energy equipment and to strengthen our air defense capabilities,” he continued. “I emphasized the need to step up sanctions pressure on Russia to curb its financial resources to continue its war of aggression,” he added. He also explained that the two ministers paid “special attention to the negotiation process for achieving a just and lasting peace,” coordinated their “positions ahead of upcoming international events,” and agreed on “further bilateral contacts.” “Grateful to Spain for its steadfast support to Ukraine on the path towards peace and our EU integration,” Andrii Sybiha concluded. Last Saturday, Albares condemned the massive attack carried out that same day by Russia against civilian targets in Ukraine, which left several provinces of the country without electricity, water, and heating and caused the death of at least one person. “I condemn the launch of Russian ballistic missiles and drones against Ukraine, which have struck civilian targets, causing deaths and deepening the energy crisis,” Albares wrote on social media. “These are unacceptable violations of international law. Spain is working for a just and lasting peace,” he added. The new Russian attacks, which involved 21 missiles and 375 drones, coincided with the start of the first trilateral peace negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).
