Until 19 April, the Teatro Infanta Isabel de Madrid (calle Barquillo, 24) presents the comedy La verdad, by Florian Zeller, directed by Juan Carlos Fisher and played by Joaquín Reyes, Alicia Rubio, Raúl Jiménez and Natalie Pinot.
La verdad has been represented in more than 30 countries since its premiere in France in 2011. In London it was awarded as best comedy of the year at the 2017 Laurence Olivier Awards.
The montage addresses a universal theme: the thin line between truth and lie in our daily lives. The work does not seek to moralize, but invites us to observe, laugh and reflect. The truth is a deep-seated comedy that strips bare our hypocrisies and confronts us with uncomfortable questions. How much of our social life is based on «pious» lies? What happens when these hidden truths come to light?
The play tells that Miguel is a compulsive liar to whom everyone else lies. His lover, the wife of his best friend Pablo, threatens to reveal their relationship. Laura, Miguel’s wife, suspects her husband’s infidelity.
After much effort and quite bad faith, Miguel manages to convince the parties of the disadvantages of telling the truth and the advantages of keeping her quiet. But that truth, do you really know?
