The Council of Ministers authorized on Tuesday, December 23, a voluntary contribution from Spain to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the amount of €1.3 million.

The Spanish contribution to UNRWA, which began in 1958, funds both humanitarian aid and development programs in the areas of education, health, and social services for the Palestinian refugee population in the Middle East.

“The purpose of this contribution is to make a direct donation to UNRWA, in line with Spain’s foreign policy in support of the Middle East Peace Process and the improvement of living conditions for the Palestinian population, the long-standing commitment to and support of the Agency’s work, and the sensitivity shown by Spanish civil society towards the Palestinian issue in general and the refugees in particular (two out of every five Palestinians are refugees),” the Government stated.
