The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz Delgado, has been appointed the new Government spokesperson, replacing Pilar Alegría, who has also been replaced by Milagros Tolón as head of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, as announced this Monday, December 22, by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.

“Elma Saiz has been part of the Government of Spain since 2023. She holds a law degree from the University of Navarra, is a specialist in taxation, and, above all, is an excellent minister with whom Spain is approaching 22 million contributors to Social Security,” Sánchez stated in an official address from the Moncloa Palace.

“Now she assumes a new responsibility: to be the voice of the Executive in this second half of the legislature,” Sánchez announced. Elma Saiz, born in Pamplona in 1975 and a current member of the PSOE Federal Committee, previously served as spokesperson for the Government of Navarre from 2019 to 2023, before joining the central government.

“The progressive coalition government faces this stage with enthusiasm, renewed energy, and a renewed spirit, ready to fight to advance every initiative with a willingness to engage in dialogue and with humility, and also, why not say it, with the certainty of having the best people to carry out this task,” added the Prime Minister.

For her part, Pilar Alegría, who is leaving both positions to head the PSOE list in the Aragonese regional elections, will be replaced by Milagros Tolón Jaime, mayor of Toledo from 2015 to 2023 and, until now, the Government Delegate in Castilla-La Mancha. “Throughout her professional career, she has acquired knowledge and experience at all levels of government in our country,” declared Pedro Sánchez.

“At the local level, she was the first female mayor in the history of the city of Toledo; at the regional level, she served as a member of the Cortes of Castilla-La Mancha; and at the national level, she led the Government in Castilla-La Mancha through the Government Delegation, a position she held until now,” he specified. “I believe this is a fundamental background in an area where all levels of government in our country have jurisdiction, such as education policy, and where the capacity for dialogue is therefore essential—a quality that defines someone who, I am sure, will be a great minister,” he added.
