<h6><strong>Eduardo González</strong></h6> <h4><strong>Enrique Mora, former Director General of Foreign Policy under both PP and PSOE governments, has been appointed Spain's ambassador to Switzerland after five years with the European External Action Service (EEAS). Emma Aparici, meanwhile, has been appointed ambassador to the United Kingdom after seven years in the Prime Minister's Office.</strong></h4> Mora and Aparici are two of the six ambassadors appointed this Tuesday, December 2, by the Council of Ministers. The other appointments are Ramiro Fernández Bachiller to Algeria; Mercedes Alonso Frayle to Cyprus; Isidro González Afonso to Tunisia; and Sergio Farré to Nicaragua. <strong>Enrique Mora</strong>, a graduate in Theoretical Physics and a career diplomat since 1988, has served at the Spanish embassies in Lebanon and Cyprus, as well as in European institutions. With extensive experience in foreign policy and international relations, he participated in the peace talks in Bosnia and Herzegovina as an advisor to the European mediator, Carl Bildt, in 1995. He also served as Deputy Director-General for the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and subsequently, between 2005 and 2010, as Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs. For more than five years, he was Director-General for Foreign Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and for the last five years, he was Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Political Director of the European External Action Service. He replaces Celsa Nuño in Switzerland. Meanwhile, <strong>Emma Aparici</strong> is the new Spanish Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, replacing José Pascual Marco, who was appointed Ambassador on Special Mission for the Great Lakes and the Horn of Africa this Tuesday. A career diplomat since 2004, Aparici had spent seven years at Moncloa Palace: from July 2018, she served as head of the Coordination Unit of the Department of International Affairs and Global Security in the General Secretariat for International Affairs, European Union, G20 and Global Security of the Prime Minister's Office. Between February 2020 and November 2023, she was Director General of the Department of Foreign Affairs in the same office, and from November 2023 until the present, she has held the position of Secretary General for Foreign Affairs in the Prime Minister's Office. Previously, she was Minister-Counselor at the Spanish Embassy in Tripoli. She was also an advisor in the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Director General of the United Nations, was assigned to the Permanent Mission of Spain to the United Nations in New York during the period between 2007 and 2012 and worked in the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and in the Directorate General of International Economic Relations of the Ministry. <strong>Ramiro Fernández Baciller</strong> is the new Spanish ambassador to Algeria, replacing Fernando Morán Calvo-Sotelo. A career diplomat since 1989, he has served as ambassador to Romania and Moldova, based in Bucharest, and as ambassador to Gabon and São Tomé and Príncipe. He has also held the positions of deputy head of mission and head of consular affairs at the embassies in Romania and Korea, and counselor at the embassy in Portugal. At the Central Office, he has served, among other roles, as ambassador on special mission and director of the Consular Emergency Unit, and as ambassador on special mission for the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2010. Since May 2022, he had been the ambassador to Poland. <strong>Mercedes Alonso Frayle</strong> is the new Spanish ambassador to Cyprus, replacing Gabriel Ferrán. A career diplomat since March 1988, she has served in Spanish diplomatic missions in Austria, Senegal, Panama, and Brazil, as Deputy Consul in London, and as Consul General in Manila and Düsseldorf. At the Central Office, she has held positions such as Deputy Director of the Technical Office of the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Advisor to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and Deputy Director General for International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, among others. Until her current appointment, she was Spain's Ambassador to Singapore. Meanwhile, <strong>Isidro González Afonso</strong> is the new Ambassador to Tunisia, replacing Francisco Javier Puig, who was appointed Ambassador on Special Mission to Afghanistan this Tuesday. A member of the Diplomatic Corps since 2003, he has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in various ministerial cabinets, and abroad at the Spanish Representation to the OSCE in Vienna, the Spanish Embassy in Cyprus, the Consulate General in Jerusalem, and the Embassy in Rabat. From 2019 to the end of 2021, he was Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean. Until now, he was Spain's ambassador to Sudan, Eritrea, and South Sudan. Finally, <strong>Sergio Farré</strong> is the new Spanish ambassador to Nicaragua, replacing Pilar Terrén. A career diplomat since 2005, he has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European External Action Service, and the Union for the Mediterranean. He has also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Spanish Embassies in Sudan and Slovenia, as a diplomatic advisor at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the EU, and as a cultural and scientific advisor in Bolivia and Belgium. He was a diplomatic advisor and spokesperson for the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, in Barcelona.
