Tomorrow, Thursday at 7:00 p.m., Casa Árabe and the Embassy of Iraq are organizing a conference entitled Press and media freedom: their positive contribution to the structure of the political system in Iraq. The impact of security and political stability on development and economic prosperity. Free entry until capacity is reached. The event will be held in Arabic, with simultaneous interpretation into Spanish.

In the past twenty-three years, journalism in Iraq has undergone a radical transformation. It has moved from an environment controlled by the state, dominated by the ruling political regime of each moment, to a space of press and media freedom under a democratic, pluralist and federal system.

The press and media in Iraq have become a key pillar for changing the political thinking of Iraqi citizens, By adopting the standards of a free press and ensuring that the State does not restrict the freedom of journalists to serve the interests of the nation and its citizens with the condition of maintaining respect for decency and public conduct. Therefore, modern journalism in Iraq is considered one of the tools for democratic transformation and transition from a totalitarian state to a state that believes in transparency, freedom and adherence to professional journalistic standards.

The democratic political system of Iraq guarantees freedom of the press and freedom of opinion through Article 38 of the Iraqi Constitution, which ensures the rights of journalists and opinion, as well as freedom of expression, provided that this freedom is not contrary to public order or morality, which are compatible with the customs and traditions prevailing in Iraqi society.

Participating in the event are Abdulkareem Al Gharrawi, Chairman of the Iraqi Media Network; Sanaa Hadi, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Iraqi Media Network; and Islam Al Saadi, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Iraqi Media Network.
