With the aim of bringing diplomacy and artificial intelligence to young Spanish and Andorran women, the British Embassy in Madrid is launching the fourth edition of Ambassador for a Day (Embajadora por un día), an initiative aimed at 16-18 year old girls from all over Spain and Andorra, that this year focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

AI is transforming all areas of our lives, as well as diplomacy. The aim of this activity is to empower young women to explore and lead in the field of AI, encouraging them to be creators and responsible for the technology of the future.

The 10 winners of this competition will enjoy a two-day program in February 2026 organized by the British Embassy at its headquarters in Madrid, with workshops on AI, leadership and diplomacy, and the opportunity to connect with industry leaders. The Embassy will cover accommodation and transport costs for winners who do not reside in the Community of Madrid.

Applicants should record a video of up to two minutes answering the question: “Think of something you would like to change or improve in your community. How could you use artificial intelligence to do that? Explain how it would work, what risks it could have and how you would ensure that its impact is positive”.

A jury from the Embassy will select the 10 most inspiring winners based on criteria such as creativity, impact and diversity of perspectives.

The British Embassy actively promotes gender equality by promoting women’s leadership in diplomacy, and collaborating with Spanish and UK authorities to prevent gender-based violence. In addition, it participates in a global pilot project on the use of artificial intelligence in diplomacy, led in Madrid by the head of the embassy’s Public Policy team, Sarinka Parry-Jones.

In the words of British ambassador Alex Ellis, “artificial intelligence is changing the world and we want young women to be the protagonists of this change. With ‘Ambassador for a Day’ we open the doors of the embassy to inspire, train and empower the next generation of leaders”.

All information, instructions for submitting the video and the participation form are available at this link.
