<h6><strong>Eduardo González</strong></h6> <h4><strong>The Spanish ambassador to Sudan, Isidro Antonio González, has expressed to the country's prime minister, Kamil Idris, his support for peace and for "the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan."</strong></h4> The ambassador made these statements last week after meeting with Kamil Idris in Khartoum. In a press release following the meeting, the Spanish ambassador reported that he had conveyed to the Prime Minister the Spanish government's hope for a prompt end to the war and an alleviation of the suffering of the Sudanese people. "The Sudanese people desire peace so they can return to their country," the ambassador stated. He also explained that Spain supports a solution that ends the war and allows civilians to complete the path of democratic transition, transforming Sudan into a democratic state in which civilians assume the reins of power. “We support the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan,” the ambassador added, as quoted by the Sudan News Agency. Specifically, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its travel recommendations for Sudan on Tuesday, advising Spaniards against traveling to the country “under any circumstances” and warning them that if they do so, “it will be at their own risk.” “Due to the clashes in Khartoum and other locations in the country between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, which began on the morning of April 15, all Spaniards are advised to avoid any travel to the country,” the Department, headed by José Manuel Albares, stated. “Khartoum airport remains closed until further notice, and the land borders are closed to foreigners. The only operational entry and exit route is the civilian airport in Port Sudan,” it continued. "The Spanish Embassy in Sudan has temporarily closed its services to the public and suspended its activities in the country until security conditions allow its reopening," and for this reason, "on-site consular protection and assistance cannot be offered to Spaniards in Sudan at this time," the Ministry added.
