From 23 September, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the European Commission’s Department of Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) will present Gaza through their eyes, an exhibition that brings together some thirty photographs taken by photojournalists who, since October 2023, document life on the strip under siege.

For almost two years, the Gaza Strip has been devastated, suffering near-constant bombardments, forced displacement, destruction and collapse of basic services. Neighborhoods and entire cities have been razed. Israeli military operations have extensively targeted civilian buildings, including homes, hospitals, schools and United Nations facilities.

UNRWA has been serving the people of Gaza for decades, providing education, medical care, protection, vocational training, psychosocial support and humanitarian aid, and since October 2023 has focused its work on responding to this emergency.

The Israeli authorities continue to ban international media from entering Gaza, and more than 200 Palestinian journalists have been killed. Despite this, UNRWA photojournalists document life under siege, risking their lives to testify to what is happening in Gaza.
