Eduardo González

The People's Party (PP) Parliamentary Group has denounced that Pedro Sánchez's government has been "left out" of the recent meetings between the United States and several European countries to coordinate work on Ukraine due to "its chaotic lack of foreign policy and its constant errors."
In a written parliamentary question filed on September 1 by MPs Pablo Hispán and Belén Hoyo, the People's Party (PP) Parliamentary Group asserts that "in recent weeks, several European countries have intensified their coordination with the United States and Ukraine in small forums from which Spain has been left out." Specifically, the PP refers to an emergency virtual meeting on the future of Ukraine convened in mid-August by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which was attended by US President Donald Trump; Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky; the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, and Finland; the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa; and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Also, on August 18, the leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Finland; the NATO Secretary General; and Ursula von der Leyen met at the White House, along with Trump and Zelensky. "Why is it that Spain is not part of the group of five EU countries that are providing frontline support to Ukraine?" asks the PP. "Why was Spain left out of the White House meeting and the ministerial-level meetings that are taking place, such as the virtual meeting on August 25 between the foreign ministers of the five European countries, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the Ukrainian Foreign Minister?" it continues. According to the US State Department, the virtual meeting was attended by Marco Rubio, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission. At that meeting, the participants "agreed to continue cooperation in diplomatic efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine through a lasting negotiated settlement," the State Department press release added. "Does the minister believe that this is how the fruits of his chaotic lack of foreign policy and its constant errors are being reaped?" the People's Party Parliamentary Group asks the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares. "What is his assessment of these international meetings, to which Minister Albares only has access through teletypes and subsequent reports?" it concludes.
