Between May 2024 and April 2025, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Germany topped the list of destinations with the most air bookings in Europe, according to the ‘Travel Insights 2025: Focus on Europe’ report by Amadeus and UN Tourism, which also indicates that Spain and the United Kingdom each accounted for 12% of the region’s air capacity.

Among the top 30 European tourist destinations, Azerbaijan experienced the fastest growth, with a 26% increase in air bookings over the latter period. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+7%) and the Czech Republic (+6%) also recorded increases, albeit more modest ones.

Within Southern and Mediterranean Europe, Spain was the number one destination in both searches and bookings, followed by Italy, Turkey, Greece, and Portugal. The report forecasts that air traffic to Europe will grow by 6.7% between April and next October.

Segmentation by city

In terms of cities, Istanbul, Rome, and Madrid remain the most searched and booked destinations. Madrid was the third most searched city, with a 17% increase between May 2024 and April 2025. It ranked second in terms of bookings in the Southern and Mediterranean Europe region, behind Istanbul and ahead of Rome. Barcelona ranked fourth in both searches and bookings.

Palma, Málaga, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife completed the list of the 10 most searched cities in the region, ranking 8th, 9th, and 10th, respectively. On the other hand, cities such as Alicante, Palma, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria managed to be among the 10 destinations with the greatest growth in bookings in the region, highlighting a shift in demand from traditional capitals to regional or leisure centers.
