On the occasion of PhotoEspaña 2025, the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid presents until next September 13 the exhibition Suggestions from Italy. From Neorealism to the 21st century, created by the Fondazione Torino Musei with the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture and the collaboration of the Fondazione CRT, to embark on a ‘journey’ through photography starting from the predigital.
The exhibition, curated by Riccardo Passoni, presents a significant selection of author photographs by Nino Migliori, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Mario Cresci, Mimmo Jodice, Mario Giacomelli, Franco Fontana, Luigi Ghirri, Ugo Mulas, Uliano Lucas, Gabriele Basilico, Ferdinando Scianna, Enzo Obiso and Bruna Biamino -belonging to the collections of the GAM Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Turin and of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT- from the end of the second post-war period to the early years of this century and chosen on the basis of the theme “Italy” in order to propose to the public a high-quality tour showing the elements of the landscape, the city, the social dimension and architecture.
The exhibition consists of sequences of images, in search of a renewed authenticity, mostly anti-rhetorical, made in order to try to re-code an Italy outside the schemes of the “postal” or monumental image.
