On Thursday, June 12, the Círculo Intercultural Hispano Árabe (CIHAR) awarded the CIHAR 2024 Gold Medals at the Salón de Embajadores de Casa Árabe to personalities and entities elected by their board of directors for their career and Arabist dedication.
In the category of personalities, the winners were Juan Martos Quesada, arabist, specialist in Islam. He was awarded the Medal for his teaching and research as an Arabist and the enhancement of the Hispanic-Arab cultural legacy, as a vehicle for interculturality; Mohammed Dahiri, Hispanist, Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies, for his teaching career and as a researcher of migration, diversity and inclusion, creating added value in the culture of coexistence, as a vehicle for interculturality, and Reynaldo Fernández Manzano, medievalist, organist and musicologist, for his career as an intellectual and researcher of al-Ándalus’ music, highlighting the Andalusian heritage as a vehicle for interculturality.
In the category of entities, the awards went to Casa Mediterráneo, Public Consortium of Spain, for its excellent work in cultural diplomacy in the Mediterranean basin, highlighting the rich cultural differences in order to foster awareness of interculturality; Toledo School of Translation, Research Centre of the University of CastillaLa Mancha, for his excellent work in translation over many centuries, in training translators and in the care of the Arabic language and Hispanic-Arab history in favor of interculturality, and the Museo Siyâsa in Cieza (Murcia), for his excellent work in the dissemination of culture and especially Andalusian and Hispanic-Arab history in general in favor of interculturality.
The ceremony was attended by the ambassadors of Tunisia and Syria, along with members of the embassies of Morocco and Algeria, as well as numerous collaborators and friends of the Circle.
