On the occasion of the Fiestas Patrias of 14 and 15 May in Paraguay, days in which it became an independent country in 1811, the Embassy of the South American country celebrates at Casa de América next Wednesday at 7 pm the third edition of the concert Serenata al Paraguay.
The polka and guarania will resonate with strength and charm, transporting the public through the joyful and contagious, melancholic and nostalgic rhythms that have defined the musical identity of Paraguay. On this occasion the concert will remember José Asunción Flores, creator of guarania, a musical genre that was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This year marks the 100th anniversary of its creation.
The evening will feature the prominent presence of Andrea Valobra, singer-songwriter and composer from Paraguay who represents the strength and sensitivity of the new national folklore. His repertoire will combine classical works with contemporary creations, in a display of the vitality of current Paraguayan music.
In addition, the dance group Vy’a Paraguay, based in Barcelona, will bring the elegance of movement and tradition, with choreographies that evoke the festive soul of Paraguay, including the iconic Bottle Dance.
Will welcome to the event Justo Apodaca, ambassador of Paraguay, closing the event Bravo Paraguay (Juan Alfonzo Ramírez), along with the orchestra and cast. Free admission until capacity is full.
