As part of the cycle In scena a palazzo, the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid will present next Wednesday at 8 p.m., a new unmissable concert entitled Canto Proibito, by the quintet of Ada Montellanico (pictured) and with the collaboration of Giovanni Falzone.
A great modern key tribute to Baroque music and the extraordinary composer Alessandro Scarlatti, on the occasion of the commemoration, in 2025, of the three hundred years since his death.
Canto Proibito is the new proposal of Ada Motellanico, one of the most representative artists of Italian jazz, tireless researcher of bold projects, focused on an idea of group sound, always very innovative and in the choice of repertoires of great musical and socio-cultural interest.
In his latest artistic projects he has sought to focus on female expressiveness, as in the album Suono di donna (2012), in which he turned his attention to artists who throughout history have devoted themselves to composition, orchestra conducting, arrangements, historically unusual roles for women; or highly successful recordings focusing on two eminent performers such as Billie Holiday and Abbey Lincoln, The latter also represents the civil rights movement of the African-American population.
Montellanico has always had a strong predilection for the narrative aspect and the world of the «song», always reworked in jazz key. Today, continuing this journey, the challenge is concentrated in the middle-late baroque era, a century full of great changes, including the scientific revolution, the birth of a new social class, the opening of the first public theatre.
This concert narrates an impetuous and fascinating century through magnificent compositions of some of the most representative authors of that time: Alessandro Scarlatti, Georg Friedrich Handel, Antonio Caldara, Antonio Cesti, Giacomo Carissimi, Francesco Cavalli and Barbara Strozzi, wonderful and rare composer of those times.
