The State Secretary for International Cooperation, Eva Granados Galiano, advocated this Tuesday for strengthening international partnerships to mobilize the resources needed to finance sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“It is necessary to strengthen international partnerships to mobilize resources in the region,” said Granados at the Casa de América headquarters in Madrid, during the presentation of the report “Latin American Economic Outlook 2024. Financing Sustainable Development,” prepared annually by the OECD Development Centre, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), CAF—development bank of Latin America—and the European Commission.

“This is one of the main conclusions of the report, but also one of our cooperation priorities, especially in the year in which Spain hosts the United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development,” the State Secretary continued.

The State Secretary also highlighted the importance of joint work between governments, the private sector, and international institutions to address the financial challenges in Latin America, in order to secure “the financing necessary to meet sustainable development priorities in Latin America and the Caribbean, which averages US$99 billion annually.”

Eva Granados was joined at the opening session by Andrés Allamand, Secretary General of the Ibero-American Development Bank (SEGIB); Federico Bonaglia, Deputy Director of the OECD Development Centre; and Diana Montero Melis, Deputy Head of Latin America and Regional Programs at the European Commission. Other participants included Antón Leis, Director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID); Érika Rodríguez Pinzón, Director of the Carolina Foundation; and Mónica Colomer, Ambassador on Special Mission for Development Financing.
