The Spanish government has provided urgent medical care to six people injured in a nightclub fire in North Macedonia.

In response to a request for assistance from the government of North Macedonia, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has organized an operation to transfer to Spain and provide top-priority medical care to six patients injured in the fire that occurred last Sunday at a nightclub in the city of Kocani, which caused the deaths of at least 59 people.

The injured were transferred to Spain on a medically equipped Norwegian plane, which departed from Oslo and made a stopover in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, to pick up the patients. The plane landed at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport on Thursday evening.

The operation is being supported by the European Union Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs, the Department of Health of the Community of Madrid, and Civil Protection. Upon arrival in Madrid, the patients were transferred to La Paz Hospital (specifically, to the Burns Unit, a national referral center) and Getafe Hospital to receive SUMMA assistance and supervision, as well as the necessary immediate medical care.
