Azerbaijan on the international scene: A political framework for concertation and cooperation was the title of the seminar held on 10 and 11 February at the Quintaana Campus of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
The main objectives of the seminar were to learn about the framework for cooperation and consultation in this country at international level, particularly in its relations with the European Union and Spain. This was a highly innovative initiative, the result of a relevant prior effort of cooperation in the field of education between the Embassy of Azerbaijan and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, within the leadership exercised by our University’s Center for Ibero-American Studies (CEIB) and the projection of the Ibero-American and Spanish language on the international scene. And with the participation of relevant professors from the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the Rey Juan Carlos University.
The seminar included presentations by various experts in international public law and international relations, which covered the history and context of Azerbaijan, links with the European Union, and priority sectors for cooperation with Spain. The event was attended by many students from different universities in Madrid, as well as various training disciplines and also experts from several Spanish university venues.
The event was opened by Deputy Vice Rector of International Relations Ángeles Cano Linares, by the representative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan, Nadir Sarajli, and also by the Vice Rector of Research and Internationalization of UNIE, David de Matías, who expressed their satisfaction with the organization and implementation of such activities.
For the Director of the Congress, Professor Elena Díaz Galán, this event was “an unrivalled opportunity to advance from the academic point of view in relations with Azerbaijan and to make known the reality of this country on the international scene”. During the two-day event, the topics of economic, energy and foreign policy of Azerbaijan were discussed in depth, with the participation of Azerbaijani experts from the Air Center, a think tank specializing in international relations. The activity was very well received by the students of the Degree in International Relations of the URJC and the other participating universities. The Embassy of Azerbaijan has shown a special interest in strengthening relations in the educational and cultural fields, thus deepening relations between Azerbaijan and Spain.
