From today until next February 2, the Teatro Español premieres in its Sala Pequeña – Margarita Xirgu Viento fuerte (Strong wind), a work by Nobel Literature Jon Fosse.
This production, translated by Cristina Gómez Baggethun and directed by José María Esbec, will stage a dramatic poem charged with symbolism that explores universal themes such as time, love, jealousy and death.
With a cast made up of Felipe García Vélez, Zaida Alonso and Alberto Amarilla, the play takes place in an apartment on the 14th floor of a block where the emotions and enigmas posed by the characters invite the viewer to reflect on human fragility. The piece, defined as a ‘poetic artifact’ by the author himself, is characterized by its subtle and enigmatic language that immerses the viewer in a dreamlike universe where the hidden forces of love, death and time are intertwined. According to the director José María Esbec, Fosse’s text “reveals our contemporary fragility, building a world through the gaze of the protagonist”.
Written in 2021, Viento fuerte marks the return of Jon Fosse to the theatre after his monumental novel project Septología. Fosse, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2023, is one of the most represented theatre authors in the world. Translated into more than 40 languages, his work connects with the great human concerns from a poetic and deeply philosophical perspective. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
