Until next February 2, 2025, the Museo del Traje (Avenida Juan de Herrera, 2) in Madrid presents the exhibition Huir con lo puesto (Escape with what you wear), a project that sensitizes and brings the reality of refugees to the public, to break stereotypes and foster empathy through a meaningful, personal and symbolic approach: clothing.
The purpose of the exhibition is to give visibility to the millions of refugees around the world today.
This initiative highlights the cultural richness of those people who, globally, have been forced to leave their countries to safeguard their lives and those of their families. It is guided by an inclusive perspective, which highlights cultural diversity, age, gender and vulnerability situations, among other aspects.
The clothing and accessories are the backbone, inspired by testimonies of refugees that facilitate a very personal dialogue with the public. The exhibition is also supported by private stories, audiovisual material, infographics, graphs and photographs, among others.
The narrative about the reality of refugees is based on objects that have accompanied them at the time of their flight from their country, during their journey or upon their arrival in Spain, thus helping to explore the different stages involved in their condition, from the moment of flight, until they arrive in the host country.
