The Council of Ministers has appointed Elena Rodríguez Díez this Tuesday to the position of Director General for Integration and Coordination of General Affairs of the EU of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A graduate in History from the Autonomous University of Madrid and member of the Diplomatic Service since 2007, she has been assigned as second in command at the Spanish Embassy in Mauritania (2015-2018) and as a temporary agent in the European External Action Service (2012-2015). Between 2007 and 2012, she worked in various areas within the Secretariat of State for the European Union.
Until her appointment, she was Deputy Director General for Justice and Home Affairs, within the Directorate General for Integration and Coordination of General Affairs of the European Union. Previously, she was Deputy Director of the Office of the Secretary of State for the EU, responsible for the preparation of the General Affairs Council and COREPER II issues (2021-2024). Between 2018 and 2021, she was Deputy Assistant Director General for the Maghreb.
In addition, the Council of Ministers has appointed the current ambassador to Kazakhstan, Luis Francisco Martínez Montes, as non-resident ambassador to Tajikistan, and the ambassador to Russia, Ricardo Martínez, as non-resident ambassador to Uzbekistan.
