On 23 and 30 November and 14 December, between 11 am and 1 pm, you can follow the history of Almada Negreiros through the Spanish capital with free guided tours organized by the Embassy of Portugal.
These meetings will begin at the Museo Reina Sofía, which until 6 January hosts the invited work Autorretrato en grupo (in photo© Carlos Fernando Esteves Azevedo / CAM – Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian, Lisbon), by the Portuguese modernist.
Almada Negreiros’ visit to Madrid was a prolific period in her career. The Portuguese artist was an active participant in the Spanish avant-garde scene of the late 1920s and early 1930s, attending the gatherings of the main places of the time, such as the Granja el Henar café or the Pombo café.
His intense artistic production resulted in the creation of works that still fill the imagination of the city today: the murals for the student residence Fundación Del Amo, in the university town; the panels for the Teatro Muñoz Seca or the Cine Barceló e, The Cinema San Carlos, which was later moved to Lisbon. Registrations for the visit must be made in the email hola@laliminal.com.
