Peter Huber will begin his second term as Austrian ambassador to Spain on August 3.

Eduardo González Diplomat Peter Huber will take up his post as Austrian ambassador to Spain on August 3, the same position he previously held between 2014 and 2017, according to sources at the Embassy who spoke to The Diplomat. Born on October 16, 1967, in Kitzbühel, in the Tyrol region, Peter Huber studied law at the University of Innsbruck, spent two years at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna between 1994 and 1995, and earned a Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 1995. He also received his doctorate in law from the University of Innsbruck in 1995. After joining the diplomatic service in 1996, he served as counselor at the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations (1999), counselor at the Austrian Embassy in Paris (2002), director of the International Organizations Department at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2008), chief of staff to two State Secretaries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wolfgang Waldner (2011) and Reinhold Lopatka (2012), Austrian ambassador to Spain and Andorra from January 2014 to November 2017, and, from December 2017 to the present, Austrian ambassador to Germany. Huber will replace Enno Drofenik, Austrian ambassador to Spain since August 2022, who will soon assume the ambassadorship to Serbia. Interestingly, Enno Drofenik will succeed Christian Ebner in Belgrade, the diplomat who, in 2018, succeeded Huber as ambassador to Madrid.
