Spain condemns settler attack in the West Bank that left four Palestinians and two Israelis dead

The Diplomacia The Spanish government has reiterated its “firm condemnation” of the continued violence by Israeli settlers “who act with impunity against the Palestinian population of the West Bank” and who this past Friday claimed the lives of four Palestinian civilians and two Israeli settlers “in another indiscriminate attack.” “Faced with this spiral of settler violence in the West Bank, the Spanish government calls on the Israeli government to take the necessary measures to de-escalate the violence and to ensure that these actions do not go unpunished,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared in a statement on Saturday. “The Israeli government must reverse its policies of settlement expansion and protection of settler violence against the Palestinian civilian population, and fulfill its obligations as the occupying power in Palestine,” it continued. “The Spanish government reiterates its firm commitment to the implementation of the two-state solution and will continue to hold accountable any actor that obstructs its viability,” it concluded. Four Palestinian civilians and two Israeli soldiers (one of them identified as a settler leader) were killed on Friday in a shootout in the village of Tell, south of Nablus. According to Human Rights Watch, the clash occurred after a previous attack by Israeli settlers against the Palestinian community. The Israeli army has announced the deployment of a “large-scale counterterrorism operation” following this latest day of violence in the West Bank.
