Albares discusses with his UK and Belgium counterparts the situation of their nationals affected by the Los Gallardos fire

The Diplomat Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has contacted his counterparts in the United Kingdom, Yvette Cooper, and Belgium, Maxime Prévot, to exchange information on the situation of their nationals affected by the Los Gallardos fire (Almería), according to sources at the Ministry on Saturday. According to the same sources, Albares and his counterparts have committed to remaining in contact regarding any developments. The Minister has also been in contact with his counterparts in the United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada, and the Netherlands, "who have conveyed their solidarity and support regarding the serious fire in Almería." "Through social media, numerous countries and foreign ministers have expressed their solidarity with Spain and their condolences to the victims and their families," they added. “I am grateful for all the solidarity and condolences I have received from so many countries and foreign ministers for Almería, Andalusia, and Spain during this painful time of the terrible fires,” Albares posted on social media on Saturday. “Our thoughts are with all those affected by the devastating wildfires in Spain,” a Foreign Office spokesperson said. “We are supporting the affected British citizens and their families, and we remain in contact with the Spanish authorities,” he added. At least twelve people have died, 23 remain missing, and 1,405 have been evacuated as a result of the forest fire that broke out this Thursday in the municipality of Los Gallardos, in Almería, according to the latest figures from the Andalusian Regional Government. Although the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) of Almería has completed the autopsies of the twelve deceased, it has not yet been possible to determine the identity, age, sex, or nationality of any of them. However, it is estimated that the vast majority are foreign nationals, probably British and Belgian, with the possible exception of one Spaniard. Some media outlets have reported that four bodies were found in a burned-out vehicle with the steering wheel on the right, leading to the assumption that they are British.
